Cash is an unglamorous – but critical – element of portfolio management. For the past couple of years yields on cash-like instruments were negligible, leading endowments to hold cash in bank accounts bearing little to no interest. This year’s increases in short-term interest rates have changed this calculus. Non-profits are now able to explore more active approaches to cash management which have the potential to realize some additional return in a market environment that has been challenging for all asset classes. TIFF explores how organizations can define cash needs and help identify what strategy may be appropriate for them.

Are investors back to bonds? It’s been a historically bad year for the bond markets. But with valuations in the tank thanks to the Fed’s interest rate hikes, and new securities becoming available at attractive yields, investors may finally be ready to test the fixed-income waters again.
Trevor Graham, Managing Director – Equity-Oriented Strategies at TIFF Investment Management, an outsourced chief investment officer firm, said the team is considering allocating more capital to the bond market as rate hikes continue — a reversal of the firm’s investment strategy from just a few months ago. In June, TIFF replaced some of its fixed-income allocation with hedge funds whose mandate is similar.

Huan Zhou joined TIFF in 2022 and currently leads the Portfolio Analytics & Reporting team. Huan manages the reporting and analytics processes for client portfolios and TIFF funds. She also oversees TIFF’s day-to-day data administration, ensuring compliance with policies and maintaining the accuracy of data inputs and outputs. Additionally, Huan focuses on the administration of portfolio data across TIFF’s investment technology platforms.
Prior to joining TIFF, Ms. Zhou worked as a Data Analyst at Hartford Funds.
She received a BS in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from Drexel University.
